Desert Moon Designs Studios & Gallery in Asheville’s River Arts District will celebrate the Spring Equinox with Nature: Three Perspectives on Depot in March.
“Our community of artists on Depot Street has so much talent it’s difficult to imagine how we can truly honor Mother Nature with only three photographer’s points of view,” noted Julie Spalla, the gallery’s owner/curator and a nationally-recognized artist.
Photographers Cleaster Cotton, Laurie McCarriar and David Simchock will provide a bird’s eye view of nature. The artists’ perspectives capture the mysteries of a mud puddle, an ocean horizon that seems to go on forever, or the silence of a forest of green in introspective moments. From the simple childlike joys of lying in the cool grass watching cloud formations or the expansive vistas of a hike along a Blue Ridge trail, gallery visitors will explore their own connection with nature.
For each exhibit, Desert Moon Designs selects a nonprofit to support. With nature as the exhibit’s subject, Asheville GreenWorks was a synergistic fit, considering the organization’s “Green the RAD” initiative.
As part of the greater River Arts District Association, the gallery will hold a 2nd Saturday special event on March 10 from 5-7pm at which visitors can purchase a favorite photo, mingle with the artisans and discuss their inspirations while noshing on local artisan food tastings. On March 15th at 5:30pm David Simchock will have a gallery talk on the topic of nature photography.
